After installing this package, restart your Mac to check the result. For your reference, see: Update history for Office for Mac. If your OneNote for Mac is not updated, I suggest you update it to the Version 16.56 using installer package. I see that when you open your OneNote for Mac, it just opens a blank screen and I do understand how this issue impacted your work and apologize for it.
